Satumaisia neuleita

Lokakuun viimeinen päivä ja Socktober alkaa olla ohi ja tänä vuonna sain kahdet sukat aikaiseksi. Olen tosi tyytyväinen tähän toisen pariin, upotin siihen jämäkerän tosi kirjava lankaa ja sille kaveriksi yksinäisen kerän violettia Fabel lankaa minkä olin saanut lankavaihdossa. Sukien nimi on Ruma ankanpoikanen ja ihme ja kumma, kyllä niistä vaan joutsen tuli! En nyt ihan haluasi sanoa että se pätkävärjätty lanka oli ruma mutta oli se todellakin ilosen kirjava, ehkä heiman liian kirjava minun (sukka-)makuun. Neuloin sukan varpaasta ylöspäin ja sain silä tapan käytettyä joka ikisen metrin, hädin tuskin oli niin paljon violettia lankaa jäljellä että sain langanpäät päätetyksi.

 

 

 Today is the last day of (S)ocktober and the result this year were two pairs. I’m very pleased with the second pair I casted on since I could use up a really colorful left-over I didn’t know what to do with. The left-over was accompanied by o lone skein of violet Fabel I received in a swap. The pattern was called Ugly Ducklings and to my great surprise it turned out to be a swan! Well I wouldn’t maybe call that variegated yarn ugly but it is really cheerfully colored, maybe a little too cheerful for my (sock-)taste. I knitted mine socks toe-up and managed to use up every meter of yarn, there were hardly enough yarn left to weave in when the socks were knitted.

Truly wonderful and and I think I could cast on another pair right now since the pattern is so addictive, you want to knit some more to see how the next square turns out… and the next.. and the next…

Lokakuussa olen neulonut satumaisia neuleita. Ranteetkin ovat saaneet oman osuuden villaista lämpöä, ihan alpakkavillaista lämpöä. Tämän tukoosinsinisen alpakkalangan sain syyskuussa lakavaihdossa. Voi että se oli pehmätä ja siintä oli saatava jotain heti… Olin ehkä himen liian kiireinen kuin pisitin silmukat puikolle, Camelont-kämmekäissä on tosi kaunis palmikko-neule joka ikävä kyllä hieman häviää alpakkapehmeyteen.
 In October my knitting has been inspired by fairytales. My wrists have also been rewarded with something woolen warm... soft alpaca wool. I received this wonderful turquoise yarn in a swap. It was so soft and cosy and I really wanted to have something warm of it immediately. Maybe I was a little too hasty when casting on; the Camelont fingerless mittens have got a lovely cabled patter which unfortunately disappears a little in the furry alpaca coziness.

Feelis: Neuloin  sormista alespäin, ranteesta tuli aika pitkä mutta se lämmitää tosi ihanasti. Väri on aivan mahtava mutta vaikea näyttää valokuvassa. Tän talven lemmikit!!
I knitted them top-down to be able to use all the yarn. The cuff is maybe a little too long but it keeps me warm. The color is gorgeous but truly difficult to catch on a photo. These will be a favorite this season!!!

Socktober

Lokakuun ensimmäinen sukapari valmistui ennätysaikaan, Vajaassa viikossa sain Kalajoki-sukat valmiiksi. En oikein tiedä miksi nämä valmistu niin nopsasti, ehkä siksi että lanka oli hieman paksumpaa kuin sukkalanka mitä tavallisesti käytän, mallineule oli myös tosi nopea neuloa. Ihan kivat niistä tulivat, neulon nämä Cascade Heritage langasta, se oli tosi kiva tuttavuus.. Niin kiva että olen jo ostanut hieman lisää sinistä sukkia varten. Vyyhdissä oli 150 g ja se riitti justiinsa kaksiin sukkiin, tosin varret eivät ole niin kovin pitkät mutta ihan riittävän pitkät että pitää kylmän loitolla.

The first pair of socks in socktober is finished in less than a week. I really don’t know why these were finished so fast, maybe because the yarn was a little heavier than what I usually use for socks, the pattern was very easy too mostly knit and a few purls. Really nice socks, I knitted them in Cascade Heritage, a very nice acquaintance indeed. So nice actually that I have already bought myself another blue hank. There were 150 g yarn in a hank and that was just enough for two pairs of socks, the legs are maybe a little shorter than I usually knit but it’s still long enough to keep feet and ankles warm.

Sain myös talvea varten lapaset puikoilta. Tunnen itseni tosi reippaaksi kun neulon jämälankoja pois. Lapasista tuli tosi lämpöiset ja ihanat mutta jämiä on vielä niin paljon että taitaa tulla toisetkin lapaset. Kaikkein paras näitten lapasten kanssa oli se että ne valmistuivat niin nopeasti kun puikkopaksuus on 5mm. Mutta nyt olen taas palannut normaaliin ja tuherran tumppuja 2mm puikoilla;-)

I  have finished a pair of mittens for the winter too. I’m so pleased because I have used some of the leftovers I had… but still there are aran-weight leftovers enough for a second pair. The mittens are warm and cozy but the best of all was that they were so speedy to knit but what else is to expect when you’re using size 5 mm needles. But now I’m back to old well know paths and knit mittens with 2mm needles;-)

Olen mustasukkainen

Musta pitsi on aina tyylikästä… mutta musta lanka on aika kurjaa neuloa syyiltoina varsinkin kun se näkö ei enää ole sitä mitä se kerran oli, ja siihen sitten halkeileva lanka… Yritiän siinikkässti pääsää eroon noista Fabel langoista mitä ovat kertyneet tonne mun lankakokoelmaa, lapasoissa se on ihan kivaa mutta ollen hieman epävarma mitenkä se sukissa kestää.. Ketävyydestä puhuen. Kun viimeksi otin Noro-sukat peun jälkeen käyttöön huomasin että ne olivat melkeen kuluneet rikki. Aika harmi, sukat ovat olleet noin vuoden käytössä ja luulin todellakin että niin kallis ja kehuttu lanka olisi kestänyt paremmin. Ei muuta kun parismaan pohjia kassan. Noro kämmekäät mitkä neuoin langanlopiusta ja jotka nytkin lämmittää ranteita on kestänyt käytön paljon paremmin, ei ole edes pahemmin nukkautuneetet. Sitä ei voi sanoa kämmekäistä mitkä neuloin Fame Trendistä mitkä on myös jokapäiväisessä käytössä, ne on tosi nukkaiset. Jospa palataan sukkiin. Siis tyylikäs musta pitsi ja tosi kivat vaihtelevat sukat neuloa. Sukka oli Ravelry ryhmän Solid Sock elo/syyskuun mysetterisukka. Inspiraationa oli ollut Beethovenin Für Elise, Sukat alkavat aika vaimeasti pienin äänin jousteneuleena ja sitten ääni kovenee kun varsia neulotaan, jo kantapäissä jo hakataan tangentteja aika lailla kunnes sukat päättyvät mahtavaan forte fortissimoon jalkapöydän isoon pitsineliöön. Muistelin kuinka itse joskus 35 vuotta sitten itse taistelin Für Elise kanssa ja tietysti minun oli neulottava nämä!

Black socks are always stylish…but black yarns isn’t a pleasure to knit durin darkening evenings especially when the eyesight isn’t what it used to be and the add splitting yarn to this… I’m eagerly trying to knit away all that Fabel yarn I have in my stash. It’s Ok for mittens but I’m still a little uncertain about how the yarn stand the wear in socks. Talking about durability. Last time I put on my about one year old Noro-socks I realized that there were almost holes in the sole. I’m a little disappointed; I had thought that such expensive and praised yarn should stand wear a little better. My Noro fingerless mittens on the other hand (I’m wearing them right now) are still OK hardly no piling at all. That I cannot say about the fingerless mittens I knitted in Fame Trend which I also use daily, they pile more than their fair share. But let’s return to the socks… Stylish black lace and a really fun pattern to knit. These socks were the Aug/Sept mystery sock in the Ravelry group Solid Socks. The designer was inspired by Beethoven’s Für Elise when designing these. The socks start quietly with some ribbing and the volume increases a little at the leg. Once at the heels you hammer pretty loudly on the keys and it all ends up in a mighty forte fortissimo when knitting the lace-diamond on the foot. I remember myself struggling with this piece about 35 years ago and I only had to knit these!

Sukka blues

Joskus malineule ja sormet eivät oiken toimi ydessä. Tämä malli oli sellainen. Heti kun sain tän kerän Zauberballia päätin että teen nämä sukat langasta, tosin kesti hieman ennen kuin sain langan puikoille  ja petyin kovasti. Mallineule oi todellakin sitkeä, tuntui siltä että maleskeli tervassa. Mutta neuloin kuitenkin ahkerasti ja nyt minut on palkittu tosi hyvin istuvilla sukilla. Neuloin kantalapun numeroa pienemällä puikolla ja tällä kertaa siintä ei tullut nin pönkkänen kun se yleensä on ja sukka istuu todellain hyvin, kuin nyrkki silmässa. Olen niin tyytyväinen ja kiittelen itseäni että istuin sen eka illan ja kerin lankaa edes takaisin että saisin värit samala paikalle. Vihdoinkin minulla on raitalangasta sukat missä raitat ovat samaa paria.

Sometimes the harmony between yarn, needles and fingers isn’t there. This pattern was one of those. Already when I received this skein of Zauberball I decided that I should knit a pair of Ridges and Ribs of it, it took almost a year before I had an opportunity to cast on… and was so disappointed. The pattern didn’t fit my fingers at all, but I struggled on and now I’m rewarded with a pair of socks with great fit. This time I knitted the heel flap with one size smaller needles and avoided the bulkiness that usually marks my heels. I’m so pleased and congratulate myself that I took the time to wind and rewind the skeins so that I had the colors to match. Finally I have a pair of socks of self striping yarn where the socks are alike.

Feelis: Olen niin tyytväinen, sukkien kanssa ja itesni kanssa koska en antanut periks vaikka tuntuikin vastahakoiselta. I’m so pleased, with the socks and with myself for not giving up even though I wasn’t that fun knitting.

Lapasia, lapasia

Sukkakuume on lauhtunut mutta lapasvimma jatkuu. Ensiksi merihevoset valmistui ja pari päivää myöhemmin  Hilma-lapasetkin olivat valmiit. On tää neulevimma aika kummalinen tauti. Luulisi että kaikki neulominen sopisi mutta eipäs vaan, täälltä löytyy kaksi puolivalmista tilkkutäkkiä, puikoilla löytyy kaksi puolivalmista huvia , kaksi pulovalmista villapaitaa odottaa valmistumista… ja kahdet puolivalmiit sukkaparit odottavat parempia päiviä. Ja mikään niistä ei maita… Mieli tekee  uusia lapasia, ajattelin upotaa hieman Drops Alaskaa ja sitten Noro Kureyon jämät niihin, ehkä myös hieman Novitan Puroa tai Gjestalin Tindeä jos tarve vaatii. Ajattelin neuoa lapaset sormista ranteeseen niin voin voin suunitella paraat langat siihen missä ne näkyy parhaiten.

The sock-knittng fever has really left the building… but the mittens-mania is still going strong. First I finished the Hippocampus mittens and only two days later I casted off the Hilma-mittens. This knitting-fever is a strange disease. One could believe that any knitting would do… but oh no, no way.  I have two afghans ongoing, two shawls on the needles, two cardis to finish and two pairs of socks waiting for better days. But I’m not in mood for knitting anything of that. I’m keen on casting on for a new pair of mittens where I'm planning to use some of the Drops Alaska I have and at the same time use up the Noro Kureyon leftovers I have and if needed I could also use some of the Novita Puro and Gjestal Tinde leftovers I have. To make sure that the prettiest yarn will show  best I’m planning to knit the mittens top-down.

Feelis: Tosi kivat, tykkäsin kovasti vale-palmikko varresta, se teki Hilman paljon hauskemmaksi  neuloa kun peruslapaset.  Really nice, I really liked the false-cable ribbing in the cuff.  It made Hilma a much funnier knit than a pair of ordinary mittens.

Pikkusiskon pipo

Aamusin on kylmää kun pyöräilee kouluun/töihin. Siispä virkkasin pkkusikolle pienen syyspipon.
It's cold in the mornings when we ride by bike to school and work, so I crocheted a beanie to Little Sister.

Floran villatakki

Tai paremmin puuvillatakki. Oli tosi kiva malli neuloa, ei sauman saumaa jos jättää taskut neulomatta. Luulen kyllä että jos hieman harkitsee asiaa niin saa ne taskutkin neulottua paikalle mutta jos on niin hätäinen kun meikäläinen on niin en ehtinyt harkita asiaa ennekuin taskut oli neulottu.  Ikävä kyllä en ostanut tarpeeksi lankaa ja viimeinen kerä sinistä on ihan eriväristä vaikka on sama väri. Onneksi se jäi sinne helmaan. Voisi melkein uskoa että se on tehty ihan ajatuksella. Parislanka on ihan kiva neuloa mutta kova halkeilemaan. Valmis neule on tosi pehmeä, se saa minut hieman funtsimaan miltä toi helma mahtaa näyttää kun taskut on tungettu täyteen hienoilla kivillä, ja kaikella muulla kamalla mikä on pikkutytölle tärkeätä.
 
Floras cardi was a really nice pattern to knit. No a single seam but for the pockets. And I’m sure that if you think about it more thoroughly you can knit the pocket onto the cardi, but if you are in such a hurry to cast on as I’m the pockets were knitted before I realized that some time to reflect what you’re doing and how to do it had been useful. Since I never frog if I can avoid it I took a bite in the sour apple and out the pocket in place the last thing I did. Unfortunatly I didn’t buy enough blue yarn and had to buy one more skein and it is not the same lot and it’s very visible. Luckily the stripe is at the hem, you could almost believe it was made with purpose. The yarn was nice to knit but a little splitty. The finished garment is very soft and it makes me wonder how the hem will look like after a few days of wear when the pockets have been stuffed with beautiful stones and other things that are precious to a little girl.

Feelis: Kiva malli neuloa, lankakin on ihan kiva ja pikkusisko on tosi tyytyväinen. Ihan tulee hymy huuleen kun näkee pirteän (pikkusiskon oma valinta) väriyhdistelmän.
A very nice pattern to knit and Little Sister is very pleased. The cheerful color combination (chosen by Little Sister) makes me smile an happy smile.

Kun takki oli valmis kaivoin esille kaikki Paris-langat mitä minulla oli ja neuloin niistä pari tiskirättiä  ja pari pientä kasovpesulappua. Ei ne sen kummempia ole, nurjia ja oikeita silmukoita ruutukuviossa, väriyhdistelmä on ”pirteä” ja minulla on tosi hyvä olo kun sain kakki pienet langanöttöset pois käsistä.

When the cardi was finished I picked out all Paris-yarn I had and knitted two dishcloths and a two face-scrubs of it. They are nothing particular, knits and purls in a square-pattern and a “cheerful” color combination. You cannot imagine how pleased I’m to have spent every cm of the yarn in a useful way and no left-overs at all to bother about.


Kesäkuussa osallistuin Ravelry-ryhmän ”European Let the Love Flow swap” järjestämään huvi-KALiin pääasiassa koska toisena palkintona oli tosi hieno huvineula. Sain ainoastaan yhden huvin aikaa… ja voitin toisen palkinnon ja sain tämän upean huvineulan ja pari silmukkamerkkiä.

 In June I participated in a shawl-KAL arranged by the ravelry-group “European Let the Love Flow swap” mainly because I fell in love with the shawl-pins that were the second price. I only managed to finish one shawl and I won the second price… this beautiful shawl-pin.
