Heaven I’m in Heaven

Taivaansinisen langan ja taivaallisen mallin sain toukokuun lankavaihdossa. Minulla oli tosin hieman vaikeuksia ymmärtää mallia voi olla että malli on hieman epäselvä, tai että mallin logiikka ja minun logiikka ei puhu samaa kieltä. Tai sitten minulla oli vaan yksinkertaisesti niin kiire päässä alkuun että en malttanut lukea kunnolla. Olen kuitenkin ihan tyytyväinen lopputulokseen, se on niin sopivan kokoinen, sitä voi käyttää joko kaulahuivina takin alla, tai hartioiahuvina viileässa konttorissa. Mistähän johtuu että minä aina joudun kylmiin konttoritiloihin. Nytkin minulla on villasukat, kämmekäät ja huvi. Ulkona niitä ei kyllä tarvita.

I received this skye blue yarn and this heavenly pattern in a swap in May. I did have some difficulties to understand the pattern. Maybe the pattern was a little unclear or it could also be that the logic of the pattern didn’t fit the logic of my brain. Or it could be so simple that I was in such hurry to get started that I didn’t have patience enough to make sure that I understood the pattern. Anyhow I’m very pleased with my shawl, it has such a nice size. Small enough to be used as a shawl around your neck under the coat but big enough to wrap around your shoulders at work. I’m sure I’ll be needing this since I always mange to get my des in the coldest office in the house.  At work I’m wearing knitted woolen socks, fingerless mittens and a shawl, outdoors there is no use for these knitted items….

Juhannusatton vietin hääpäivääni tätä päivää kanntaaa tietysti juhlia. Siispä osallistuin merkkipäivävaihtoon (sai itse päätää mitä halusi juhlia). Sain hääpäivälahjaksi kerän Teetee Eleganttia ja shamppanja teetä.


I had my wedding anniversary on the midsummer night eve. That’s a good reason to celebrate therefore I participated in a ”celebration-swap” (you decided yourself what you wanted to celebrate). On my anniversary-day I received a skein of Teetee Elegant and some champagne flavored tea.

Ett stort tack till dej Ingaredstoka som uppvaktade mej på min bröllopsdag med ett så härligt paket, teet det delar jag med min man eftersom han också tycker om ett gott te.

Tour de Sock

Toukokuun loppu ja kesäkuun alku on minulle vuoden kiirein aika. Viisas ihminen ehkä silloin laskee hieman tavoitettaan esimerkiksi neulerintamalla… Mutta tolkuton ihminen ilmoittautuu silloin sukkakilpailuun Tour de Sock. Kilpailu alkaa kesäkuun ensimmäinen päivä ja määräaikaan sitten julkaistaan sukkamalli. Kymmenen päivää myöhemmin uusi sukkamalli julkaistaan ja jos eka pari ei ole valmis niin olet leikistä ulos. Kuusi sukkaparia myöhemmin maalikäynti on heinäkuun lopussa. En tietenkään harkinnut asiaa hetkeäkään ennekuin näppäsin pääsymaksun PayPalin kautta.

Sitten sitä neulottiin, joka ilta niin paljon kuin jaksoi ja ehti. Ikävä kyllä koko lauantai meni ”hukkaan” kun olimme naapurikaupungin ja näimme Benke Rydmannin  Joutsenlammen. Se oli todellakin MAHTAVA esitys. Illalla sitten nautimme ystäviemme kanssa pienen baletti-illallisen eli en saanut silmukkaa neulotuksi. Kävi niin että jos olisin jaksanut sunnuntai-iltana neuloa tunnun lisään niin olisin pääsyt toiselle kierrokselle… Tosin oli hyvä näinkin, saan kaikki sukkamallit vaikka en päässyt jaksoon ja tää rankka neulominen sai ranteen kipeytymään ja kakkossukassa oli kovasti palmikoita ja kierrettyjä silmukoita. Tiedän kokemuksesta että sellaiset temput ei millään helpota rannekipua.
End of May and beginning of June is the busiest time for me. A wise person would reduce her ambitions for instance when it comes to knitting… An unwise person participates in Tour de Sock. It’s a knitting competition which starts 1^st of June when the first sock pattern is released. Ten days later the next pattern is released and if you haven’t finish your first pair you’re out of the game. The finish is six pairs of socks later in end of July. Naturally I didn’t give the timing aspect one second of reflection before I sent the registration fee via Paypal.

Then I started to knit; every evening as much as I could after all must-do´s were done and before my eyes fell together. Unfortunately the whole Saturday was a lost day from knitting point of view. We went to the neighboring town to see Benke Rydmans set of the Swanlake. It was a MAGNIFICIENT performance. In the evening we had a ballet-soupe together with our friends and not a single stitch were knitted that day. Hadn’t I’ve been so tired Sunday evening, had I knitted one more hour I had passed the first stage. Now I didn’t… Well, it’s OK this way too, I’ll receive all the remaining five patterns as they are released and this heavy knitting was really hard on my wrist and the sock for the second stage was filled with tiny cables and twisted stitches. From experience I know that those are techniques that definitely don’t cure aching wrists.

Feelis: Kiva neuloa, tosi hyvin istuvat suka, kauniit joka suunasta ja kantalappu on todellakin nerokas! Taitaa olla ensimmäinen kerta kun voin ajatella että tekisin toisetkin. Fun to knit, great fit beautiful in all directions and the heel flap is nearly genial! I think this is the first time I could consider to knit another pair of the same pattern.

Minua on hemmoteltu

Maanantaina kun tulin töistä postilaatikossa odotti paketti. Kapris oli lähettänyt minulle sinisen sukkalanka paketin. Paketissa oli ihanaa suomalaista salmiakkia, suklaata ja 150g Cascade Heritage lankaa, siintä tulee minulle kahdet sukat!!! Olen nähnyt tämän langan mainittuna monessa paikaa ja olen ollut tois utelias. Nyt se on myös minun oma ja sormenpäitä kutitaa niin kovast että olen aika varma että se pääsee puikoille ji kesäkuussa. Mietin nimittäin että osallistuisin Scandinavian RAK-ryhmän siniseen sukka-KALiin. To-do-listalla on 72 sukat että eiköhän sieltä löydy sopiva malli.

Last Monday when I came home from work there was a parcel waiting for me in the postbox. Kapris had sent me a blue sock-yarn-swap-parcel. I received some delicious finish salt licorice, some chocolate and 150g Cascade Heritage yarn in a sky-blue color that will be enough for two pairs of socks! I have seen this yarn mentioned every now and then and have been very curious. Mow it is in my possession and I’m quite convinced that I will cast on for a pair of socks in June. I think I’ll join the sock-KAL arranged by Scandinavian RAK-group in Ravelry. There is 72 pairs of socks in my to-do-list so I’m pretty sure that I’ll find a suitable pattern.

Viime viikolla minua hemmoteli Lingonben. Ravelry-ryhmä ”Svenska Byten” on järjestänyt dekkarivaihdon. Sain toisi ihanan paketin jonka teema oli sininen Britannia. Sain Håkan Hesserin kirjan ”Himmel över London” ja taivaansinsitä lankaa ja "198yds of Heaven"-huvin mallin, siihen sitten lisäksi englantilaisia namusia ja pipareja. Huivimalli ja lanka oli niin kivat että oli heti aloitettava.

Last week aI was spoilt by Lingoben in a detective story swap arranged by the Ravelry-group Svenska Byten. I received a wonderful swap where all the parts were join together in the theme Blue Britannia. I receive Håkans Nessers novel "Himmel över London" (~Heaven above London) and sky-blue yarn. Together with the yarn came the pattern to "198yds of Heaven"-shawl. Some British sweets and cookies completed the parcel. The yarn and pattern were so irresistible that I had to cast on immediately.

Sukkalaatikko alkaa olla aika täysi ja lisää pitää vaan neuloa. Kesää varten olen neulonut bambulangasta nilkkasukat. Tällä kertaa neulominen oli vaivatonta. Tästä voi siis oppia sen että malli kannattaa aina valita langan jälkeen. Kuinkahan monta kertaa tää läksy pitää tehdä ennkuin se asetuu sinne korvien väliin? Bambulanka on ihanan viileän tuntuinen jalassa mutta ei se ihan ole kuin villalanka… Päivän käytön jälkeen sukka on löysistynyt ja lerputtelee nilkan ympärillä. Onneksi varsi on niin lyhyt että ei kuitenkaan mene makkaralle. Vaikka sukka tuntuu viileältä jalssa niin päivän käytön jälkeen se haisee ja sukka menee suoraan pesuun. Villasukkia voin hyvinkin käyttä pari kolme päivääkin eikä ne haise.

My sock-drawer are getting full but still I have to knit more socks. For the summer I have knitted a pair of ankle socks in bamboo-yarn. This time the knitting was painless. From this you might learn that always chose the pattern after choosing the yarn. I wonder how many times you must do this homework before it’s in place between the ears? The bamboo-yarn feels very airy but it is not like a sock of wool… after one days wear the sock is hanging loose around my ankle. Even though the socks feel airy on the foot it does not feel particularly fresh after one days wear and it goes straight into the laundry. Woolen socks feels fresh even after two or sometimes even after three days wear.

Kevätlapasia

Nyt kun kevät on kauniimillaan, meillä on ollut pari oikein kaunista kevätpäivää tällä viikolla, saan kahdet lapaset valmiiksi. Ne saa nyt odotella syksyä ennekuin ne tulee käyttöön (toivon mukaan ainakin). Ensiksi valmistui lehtimaja-lapaset. Ne oli tosi kivat neuloa ja pidän tästä yksinkertaisesta lehtikuviosta. Ainoa mikä minua harmittaa on että suusta tuli liian lyhyt. Se peittää hädin tuskin ranne-patin. Pitää kai olla takissa pitkät hihat niin että ranteet ei palellu. Minusta se peukaonlisäykset oli hiemna kummaliset koska ne silmukat sai sitten olla mukana peukaloaukon jälkeen , mutta olen nyt oppinut että täma on aika tavallista Selbu-tyylisissä lapasissa.

Now when spring finally arrives, we have had some wonderful days this week, I cast off two pairs of mittens. They have to wait for the fall, don’t think I’ll be using them now (hopefully not…). The first pair off the needles were the arbor mittens. They were really fun to knit and I adore this simple leaf-pattern. The only thing that grieves me is that the cuff is very short, it hardly goes over that bump you have on the wrist. I guess I need to find a jacket with extra long sleeves to keep the wrists warm. Initially I thought that the thumb gusset were strange since you kept the increased stitches an knitted on to the top, but now I have learned that this is common for Selbu-mittens.

Toisen parin aloin jo huhtikuussa mutta kun olin peukaloa vailla totesin että ne ovat liian tiukat jag lyhyet (mutta varsi on taas turhankin pitkä) ollakseen hyvät. Siinä hävisi peukalo-inspiraatio ihan noin vain. Onneksi kummitytöllä on sirot kädet ja sain sisun avulla lapaset valmiiksi.
The second pair was casted on in April but when I had the thumbs left I realized that they were too narrow and too short ( but the cuff was longer that one could wish for) to be comfortable. So the inspiration to knit thumbs disappeared just likes that. Luckily my good-daughter has got very neat hands so with the help of the famous finish sisu the mittens got the thumbs.

Tiskirättiä...

Minulla on todellakin ongelmia... Yritän saada lankavarastoa kutistumaan mutta en millään pysty olla osallistumassa eri lankavaihtiohin ja vaihtokaverini ovat niin avokätisiä ja saan aina enemmän lankaa kun mitä lähetän menemään. Svenska byten järjesti lempi-lanka vaihdon... Gnyttan lähetti minulle tosi ihana paketin missä oli sekä puuvilla ja villalankaa. Pikkusisko omi heti pari kerää ja minä lohduttelin itseäni ja neuloin itselleni sinisen tiskirätin.

I really do have some stash issues... I'm trying to reduce my stash but I can not resist to join different yarn-swaps and my swap-mates are so generous that I receive more yarn than I send away. The Ravelry group Svenska byten arranged a favourite swap. And Gnyttan sent me a wonderful swap with both cotton and wool. LittleSister imediately claimed two skein of the cotton so I had to comfort myself by knitting a discloth of the remaining cotton.

Back on track again...

Pääsiäisloma, Helsingin risteily ja monta, monta tuntia junassa tekee ihmeitä. Huhtikuun sukat valmistui alta aikayksikön.
Some days off at Eastern, a Cruise to Helsinki and many, many hours in at train brought the inspiration back again. The april socks were finished so fast that I can't belivet it.

Näin onnistunut projekti saa inspiraation pursumaan ja kaivoin esille puolikiloa mustaa Drops Muskat-lankaa ja istahdin Isoveljen kanssa suunittlemaan minkälainen siintä villapaidasta tehdään. Kun kaikki oli valmista ja totesin että siispä kuvioneuletta neljällä värillä, puuvillalangasta... Mutta mitäpä hyvä äiti ei tekisi lapsille kun isoveli mainitsi ihan ohimennen että:- En aio pitää sitä koulussa... No, koska sitten aiot käyttä sitä, kysäsin... No ehkä joskuks kotona... Sillion simahti, kerroin tälle kiitämättömälle nuorukaiselle että hän just nyt jäi ilman villapaitaa....
Kiukuspäissään ongin tämän mallin esille ja aloin neuloa itselleni villatakkia. Luulen että siintä tulee tosi ihana, mustalle villatakille on aina käyttöä.

After a sucessful Project like this the inspiration is bubbling all over so I started to plan BigBrothers sweater together with him. When we'd agreed upon the design and I had realized that it would be intartsia-knitting with four colors in hard cotton-yarn...But what doesn't a mom do to her beloved children, when he "by the way" mentioned tha he was not going to wear the sweater at school. OK, I said, when will you be wearing it then? Maybe at home... was the answer. So I told this ungrateful young man that he that moment had lost a homeknitted sweater. Filled with frustration I casted on this cardi to myself... you can never have too many black cardis....

Nyt voin myös esitellä joululoma neuleen...Neuloin kummitytölleni  vauvapeitton. Ensimmäiset kymmenen centtiä oli ihna kivan mutta voin ihan rehellisesti sanoa että lopulta palmikot maistui puulle. Kummityttö sai pienen poikalapsen ja peitto on toivon mukaan käytössa siispä voin nyt näyttää sen muillekin.
Now I finally can show what I was knitting during the christmas holidays. A baby-blanket to my good-daughter. She got a wonderful little baby-boy and the blanket has now reached the happy family so I can share it with you too. The first 10 cm was fun knitting but I can honestly say that by the end I was quite tired of cables...
